Tales of Frue Destruction

For the uninformed: Lufia is a long-running RPG series that started on the SNES. It's mostly about the world of Estpolis, which is frequently terrorized by evil godlike entities known as Sinistrals. Maxim or one of his descendants journeys to destroy them. Every 100 years, the Sinistrals are revived and the process repeats (think Belmonts vs. Dracula in Castlevania). Within the timeline there's been three big battles against the Sinistrals, so this would be the beginning of a theoretical fourth Doom Island War and their third resurrection.

I focused on Gades because he, like some of the other Sinistrals, has outlandish, bizarre and unintentionally hilarious dialogue throughout the series. Some of his lines are lifted right out of the game, while "frue destruction" is an infamous line from the spellcheck-challenged script of Lufia III, where he gloats to the characters early in the game about 'frue destruction.'

This story is full of a ton of injokes about the series for people that are familiar with it, among those jokes are:

- Gades tells short and extremely one-sided accounts of his encounters with the cast from each game.

- Gades' nonsensical lust for destruction, which he admits to and gets called out on.

- A red-headed protagonist assisted by a blue-haired female sorceresses, as expected.

- Rime. It's an anagram of Erim. Erim is the Sinistral of Death but can also bring the Sinistrals back to life. During every Doom Island War, she spawns a second, good persona that gravitates towards Maxim or his bloodline and helps him fight the Sinistrals before revealing her true identity. This was a genuine surprise early in the series, but it's a plot point reused ever since and has become increasingly predictable. By this time, Erim's alternate identity not only lacks an original name, but Gades knows who she is instantly and tells her to stop fooling around.
