Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Brian H. Kim...

Posted by J.Lowther on Oct 09, 2009 - 02:12 PM

When the call went out for a skilled midi composer, a talented young gentleman from out west answered our call.

His website:

Being the finicky SOB that I am, I hit Brian with a list of themes I wanted as the backdrop for Gravitronix's gameplay. Here they are, free for download, including what I wanted from each one (you can cycle through them in game by pressing the "+" button).

The Menu Theme
For the menu theme, I wanted something relaxing. We wanted it to be a contrast from the action of the arena and I think Brian nailed that. Interestingly enough, in game, the song plays 10 beats per minute slower because we had some themes playing at incorrect speeds at first and all of the programmers decided they loved it as it was.

The Energy Theme
For this theme, I wanted something kinetic, something that gave a sense of energy without being too fast.

The Mellow Theme
I wanted to have a slower, relaxing theme in the game for those who wanted it. I specifically asked for something a bit jazzy and self-satistfied.

The Insane Theme
For this one, I specifically asked for a theme that was so fast that you'd have a heart attack trying to dance to it. I wanted fast and I certainly got it.

The Epic Theme
I wanted to have an "epic" sounding theme filled with horns that would give the impression of a pitched battle.

The Anger Theme
For this one, I wanted a rising wall of anger, something that gives the impression of conflict and rivalry.

We're incredibly happy with the work Brian has done for us and we look forward to working with him again in the near future!
