Suda was there. Where were you?
Not there, apparently. Not that I'm blaming you, the reader, personally, but Suda-san deserves better than this.
All you needed to tell me was that I'll be playing as an otaku with a lightsaber trying to climb his way up the ranks of assassins and I was sold. Having watched the preview videos, I was even further sold: the gameplay looks fun and the character development looks amazing and hilarious. The hero, Travis, also has a pet kitten and I'm a sucker for kittens.
I understand Suda-san's games generally fall under "cult" status, but so don't Bruce Campbell's movies and my lead artist and I still lined up in a queue 100 strong to get our picture taken with him. The Japanese cult fans dropped the ball on this one. I admit I'm projecting here, but place yourself in his shoes and imagine the kind of feeling you'd go home with at the end of the day. Ouch.
I'd recommend giving this game a chance when it comes out in the US: I've read some preliminary impressions and the game sounds pretty solid.
And if Suda-san somehow reads these words, don't lose hope just because Japan has largely given up on "gamer" games. I know a lot of folks in the US and Europe who are absolutely stoked for NMH, myself included. I would've loved to be there and I would have run off with as many of those TP rolls as you would've allowed, which I'd pile on my collection shelves next to other gaming stuff I've acquired over the years.
I hope NMH has good word of mouth and long selling legs. God knows, I'll show it to everyone I can here in the states.

A tragedy? It outperformed every Suda game except for Killer7 on the PS2, people are blowing this out of proportion and for all the wrong reasons.
I don't mean his sales as it's still too early to tell.
I mean the fact that few to no people showed up to his signing, despite the fact that he did all this for his fans.
No matter how you slice it, that has to suck.
yeah, i was about to come in here and defend the sales also, lol
but true, i saw the news about his signing and i feel so bad for him. i wonder if he even announced he would be there. he must have fans with such a unique style.
and there was so much toilet paper there too. i wonder if he gets to keep what he doesnt give away.
I think this is the first time I've ever read an article and felt a certain level of anxiety.
This type of thing is akin to reading about how the creators of, say, the "Venture Brothers" TV series showed up to sign season 3 DVDs or Mel Brooks was signing copies of SpaceBalls 2 (neither of which exist yet) and no one showed up for either of them.
Granted, this was in Japan so there wasn't a chance in hell of me being able to attend anyway, but the sentiment and anxiety remain.
